abstract

conclusions the role of exercise is greater in the retention than the acquisition phase for recalling past experiences. background stress induced by sleep deprivation can cause degradation of learning in the acquisition phase, and low-intensity exercise can prevent the negative effects of stress. results the results showed that, after seven days of aerobic exercise on a treadmill, the experimental group showed better performance escape latency (p < 0.05) and distance traveled (p < 0.05) than the control group in the mwm, while there was no difference between these two groups in the pre-test. objectives the aim of this study was to investigate the moderating role of aerobic exercise on spatial memory and learning following stress-induced insomnia (sleep rem) in animal models. materials and methods this experimental study was conducted on adult male wistar rats that were randomly divided into two groups. both groups were exposed to sleep deprivation induced stress, following which the experimental group was exposed to exercise training (experimental, n = 8; control, n = 8). the stress intervention was undertaken through 24 hours of sleep deprivation using a modified sleep deprivation platform (mmd). the exercise protocol included mild aerobic exercise on a treadmill (30 minutes a day, seven days), and morris water maze (mwm) protocols were applied to assess spatial memory and learning. data were analyzed by an independent t-test and dependent t-test.

Effects of REM sleep deprivation during pregnancy on spatial learning of adult male offspring of rats

Introduction: There are several evidences that show various environmental stresses during pregnancy, affect physiological behavior of the offspring. In this study the effects of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep deprivation of pregnant rats on spatial learning of adult male offspring by Morris water maze were investigated. Methods: Water tank technique was used for inducing REM sleep deprivatio...

Spatial Learning Paradigm Can Increase Post-Stress Total Time of REM Sleep in Immobilized Rats

Background & Objective: Stress contributes to sleep-wake behavior in all animals. It seems that factors such as learning and memory processes can improve sleep disorders. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effects of stress and learning (spatial memory) on total post-stress rapid-eye-movement (REM), non-rapid-eye-movement (NREM) and waking time in rats. Materials & Met...

P 6: Effect of Voluntary Exercise on Learning and Memory Impairments in Sleep Deprived Female Rats

Introduction: Sleep disorders are common problems in modern societies affecting different aspects of individuals' lives. Many studies have reported that sleep deprivation (SD) leads to impairments in hippocampus-dependent learning and memory formations. Physical exercise has been shown to improve learning and memory. The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of Voluntary...

Caffeine attenuates paradoxical sleep deprivation induced- memory impairment during paradoxical sleep windows in rats

There is considerable evidence to support the hypothesis of relationship between paradoxical sleep (PS) and learning–memory processing. It has been suggested that PS is important in memory retention at the specific time course called PS windows (PSW). The time of PSWs occurrence and duration of these PSWs following the training sessions and, the neurochemical nature of PSWs has not been well kn...
